West Yorkshire boiler: Where do I start?

Once you’ve decided that your home needs a new boiler, you need to work out what heating system you currently have and what type of system would be the most beneficial to your home:

  • Combination boiler – As well as taking care of your heating needs, combi boilers provide instant hot water. They have the advantage of freeing up space in a home, because there’s no need for a hot water cylinder (tank) like there is with a conventional boiler.
  • Conventional boiler – A conventional boiler heats your home direct from the boiler whilst also producing hot water from a hot water cylinder which is often fed by a cold water storage cistern located in the loft and a feed and expansion cistern – also located in the loft.

When you’re in the need of a plumber in an emergency, it is important to know that you have someone to rely on. At Bright Gas we have a comprehensive emergency plumbing plan in place, meaning that when you’ve got an emergency we’ll be there.

Emergency plumber Morley: Our latest emergency call out

Last night we had an emergency call out from a distressed customer, who had returned home from work to find that their boiler was not on and water was spouting across the kitchen.

Luckily our emergency plumber wasn’t far away in Batley and told the customer exactly what she needed to do not only to keep her calm but also to protect her property and cause minimum damage and was there in 30 minutes. On arrival, our emergency plumber could stop the leak, identify the cause and have the correct parts in his van to repair the boiler in 90 minutes.

After isolating the faulty boiler and removing the water from the system he also completed a service on the boiler as this hadn’t been done for over 4 years. An annual boiler service could have prevented this from occurring and the part replaced sooner.

“Extremely pleased with the work carried out by Steve Folan and Team. When I returned from work I could feel that the house was cold but had no idea that I’d walk into the kitchen to find water spurting everywhere. I had no idea what to do, but Googled for local emergency plumbers and Bright Gas appeared. I was surprised at just how fast they would be at my house and also how helpful they were before they arrived. They were great through the entire process and would recommend to anyone as I was slightly nervous about getting someone in that I’d never used before” Katherine Hitch, Morley.

 Emergency plumber Morley: What’s next?

Before the team left, our team have provided Katherine with a range of different options for the future. The main thing being that she needs to have an annual boiler service to prevent things like this from happening.

If problems keep arising, it may be more economical to have a boiler replacement a – A new Worcester Bosch boiler  would come with 10 a year parts and labour guarantee along with a savings on the gas bills by up to £250 a year.

Buy a new boiler before the winter period kicks in

Buy a new boiler before the winter period kicks in

Buy a new boiler before the winter period kicks in

Being outside in the cold, winter months can be miserable and no-one should have to put up with the same conditions in their own home. Your home should be a safe haven in the winter, somewhere to feel comfortable and warm, protected from the elements – which is why, if your boilers needs replacing, it’s important to buy a new boiler before the winter period kicks in.

During the summer months your heating is barely touched, meaning that it is easy to put off thinking about your boiler. However, as the first cold week of Autumn has appeared, purchasing a new boiler earlier you may find that there are more benefits to reap.

Installing a new system before the weather turns reduces the chance of mid-winter breakdowns, not only this but upgrading to a more energy efficient boiler will also save you money in the long term as well as reduce your carbon footprint. There’s also a safety element involved, upgrading from an older system reduces the danger of Carbon Monoxide leakages which could be putting you and your household at risk. Plus, you’re much more likely to avoid long waiting lists for installations in the autumn than the cold winter months.

Updating your boiler to a newer model can be a good investment that could save money on household bills for years to come. Although they can seem expensive initially, new models are far less prone to breakdowns and maintenance problems, so updating your system could save you time and money in the long run.

Almost two thirds of energy bills in the UK  are spent on processing your boiler so an efficient boiler makes a big difference. Whether you decide to invest in a basic model or a top of the range product, a new energy-efficient boiler can really save you money.

As well as saving on your energy bills, updating your boiler to a more energy efficient model will mean improved performance, better water pressure and fewer breakdowns. What more could you want in the cold winter months!

Investing in a new boiler now before the cold weather kicks can really help you prepare for the cold winter months ahead. Plus, getting in now means that you beat the queue.

The cost of your new boiler will vary depending on the type and size of system that you decide to install. There are now a wide range of combination and conventional boilers available, as well as some alternative systems that offer state-of-the-art technology to heat your home. However, at Bright Gas we understand that forking out for a new boiler can be a real expense that you may not necessarily be able to afford. We can now offer boiler finance on brand new efficient boilers on a monthly payment plan. Meaning that you can invest in a new boiler for your property without facing a huge upfront cost.

With up to 2 years 0% finance available, we have the ideal boiler solution for you. Invest in a new boiler that will benefit your home and your family. Buy your new boiler before the winter period kicks in!

Dewsbury, Is your boiler winter ready?

Dewsbury, Is your boiler winter ready?

Dewsbury, Is your boiler winter ready?

The UK is moving closer and closer to turning on boilers all over the country. The warmer months are drawing to a close, the nights getting darker, and winter is in sight. From Dundee to Dewsbury, people are packing away the garden furniture and swapping it for their central heating system and a cup of hot chocolate.

Almost half of Brits turned their boilers on in mid-October, meaning that there is only a couple of weeks to go to ensure that boilers are in working order. So what should you do to prepare your central heating for the cold weather?

Annual boiler services

A regular boiler service is the easiest way to avoid boiler breakdowns and make sure everything is in top working order. It is best to get your boiler checked before the cold weather really kicks in, so you can be assured that your boiler is in great working order just when you need it. Months of non-use can create problems in gas appliances, and these problems can lead to central heating system failures when the appliance begins operating in winter. Boilers should be serviced every year in order to ensure that they are safe and efficient for your family.

Insulate pipes

When the weather drops below zero, standing water in your pipes can freeze, which can block up your plumbing system. As water expands when it turns into ice, frozen pipes are also particularly likely to rupture and break. Pipe insulation is a simple, cost-effective solution to this problem.

Similar to boiler services, plumbing insulation will not only reduce your likelihood of home emergencies, but will also improve the energy efficiency of your central heating and save you money in the long-term.

Check your pressure and radiators

Take a look at your boiler’s water pressure to see if your boiler needs the pressure reducing, or if you need to call out an engineer to take a look at it. If the pressure is too low, you may be able to bring it back up to the right pressure without any difficulty, but if it is too high, you might need to speak with a Gas Safe engineer.

The start of winter is also a good time to bleed radiators. This will ensure that your central heating operates efficiently – if there is air trapped in the radiator, then it will not warm up as well as it would if it was full of water, and might not even properly warm up at all.

Run a practice test

Although it isn’t too cold outside just know, it is important to take a practice run of using your central heating system for a few hours before you really need it. This will allow you to discover whether or not it is working properly before the harsh winter weather arrives, enabling you to arrange central heating repairs when the weather is still somewhat pleasant if necessary.

Is your boiler winter ready? It will be after these simple steps!
